We are off to Labuan Marine Park (Taman Marin Labuan), which is located 3 kilometers from the southwest tip of Labuan Island and is formed by three picturesque islands. The main attraction of the park from a divers" point of view is the 4 racks lying at accessible depths.
Wreck in blue water (Mabini Padre).
The Mabini Padre was once a huge Philippine fishing trawler, in 1981 a fire broke out on it and the vessel sank. On a good day, visibility on this wreck reaches up to 40 meters.
Cement Wreck (MV Tung Hwuang).
Got its name because the ship sank while transporting cement to Brunei for the construction of the Sultan"s new palace, in 1980. Despite the unrepresentable name, the wreck is very picturesque. It is overgrown with soft and hard corals, with schools of barracuda and spadefish walking around the mast.
Australian Wreck (SS De Klerk).
The Dutch cargo and passenger steamer SS De Klerk, built in 1900, was sunk by the Dutch during World War II to prevent it from being taken over by the Japanese. However, the Japanese military managed to salvage the ship and continued to use it as a cargo ship, renaming it the Imabari Maru. In 1944, while en route from Borneo to the Philippines, the Imabari Maru hit a mine and sank, now permanently.
USS Salute.
Wrecked on June 8, 1945, after being blown up by an American mine. The unexploded shells were removed by the Malaysian Navy, but you can see cannon parts, ammo clips, skeins of wire and military equipment inside and nearby.
