We are talking about Zenobia, a famous wreck in Cyprus.

The huge ferry - 172 meters long and 23 wide - is called the Titanic of the Mediterranean. It was also, like the Titanic, first-class equipped for its time and sank on its maiden voyage. That"s where the similarities end.

Fresh, straight from the Swedish slipways, the ferry did not reach Greece with cargo from Syria, but went down at the entrance to the harbor of Larnaca in 1980 One of the versions of the reasons for the ship"s demise is “fraudulent” - for the sake of obtaining insurance for the multi-million dollar cargo. Whether this is true or not, and whether it was worth sinking a new ferry is an open question. But, to the delight of divers all over the world, a wonderful dive site has turned out, convenient and interesting.

Located wreck Zenobia in ten minutes from the harbor of Larnaca, just one and a half kilometers from the coast. In summer the water is warm and comfortable, 22ºC, and visibility is thirty meters.

The ferry lies on its side at a depth of 42 meters, where it was dragged away from the harbor entrance so as not to interfere with shipping. Due to the impressive size of the ferry: the top point is only 16-18 meters deep, you can dive it with any level of certification. And even during the lightest dive you will see the ship lying on its port side and the cargo vehicles scattered around, which seem toy-like compared to the enormity of the hull.
